Introduction to Mobile Programming

Abstract

Mobile programming has become an essential skill in today’s digital world, where smartphones and applications shape how people work, learn, and connect. Yet, many computer science students enter their studies with little exposure to mobile development, leaving a gap between classroom knowledge and industry needs. This study introduces beginners to the core concepts of mobile programming across Android and iOS platforms, aiming to provide a practical foundation for building simple applications. The approach combines a structured review of key learning resources with hands-on practice. Students were guided through environment setup, user interface design, and implementation of basic features while using languages and tools such as Java, Kotlin, Swift, and mobile SDKs. Emphasis was placed on problem-solving and interactive exercises to connect theory with practice. Preliminary outcomes suggest this approach improves comprehension and confidence. Students found that working on small, real-world projects made abstract programming concepts easier to grasp and inspired them to continue exploring advanced development topics. In conclusion, a structured and beginner-friendly introduction to mobile programming bridges early learning gaps, strengthens engagement, and equips students with skills relevant to modern technology.
