Abstract

This study aims to analyze the portrayal of the Danish invasion of England and the cultural differences between the Danish and Anglo-Saxon societies in the Netflix series The Last Kingdom. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method and applies the cultural history theories of Peter Burke and Robert Darnton. The data were collected from selected episodes of the series and analyzed through historical representation and thematic analysis. The findings show that the series portrays the Danish invasion not merely as a violent act, but as a culturally motivated journey shaped by honor, belief in fate, and a desire for legacy. The research also highlights the contrasts between the two societies in terms of religion, governance, warfare, and cultural identity. This study contributes to the understanding of how historical narratives are interpreted and reimagined in modern media and provides insight into the cultural dynamics of medieval England as portrayed in visual storytelling.
