Factors Influencing the Incidence of Decompression in Traditional Diver Fisherman on Barrang Lompo’s Island
Abstract
Decompression sickness is a disease that is a concern for divers today. The high number of accidents experienced by divers is due to the lack of knowledge of fishermen about diving and its risks. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the incidence of decompression in traditional diver fishermen on BarrangLompo Island. This study used a cross sectional study approach. The population was all fishing divers on BarrangLompo Island, as many as 311 divers. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling method with total sample were 76 people. Data analysis using chi square test by SPSS. The results showed that there was no effect of length of dive (p-value = 0.244) and depth of dive (p-value = 0.138) and that there was an effect of a history of comorbid heart disease (p-value = 0.011) on the incidence of decompression in traditional diver fishermen on Barrang Lompo Island. There is no effect of length of dive and depth of dive and there is an effect of a history of comorbid heart disease on the incidence of decompression in traditional diver fishermen on Barrang Lompo Island.
