Halal Food at the Rambu Solo Ceremony for the Muslim Community at North Salubarani Tanah Toraja

Abstract

Rambu Solo is a funeral ceremony for the Toraja people to realize and perfect the teachings of their ancestors by slaughtering animals in the form of pigs and buffalo. This research focuses on halal food at the Rambu Solo ceremony for the Muslim community at North Salubarani Tanah Toraja. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of halal food served to the Muslim community at the death party or Rambu Solo. This research is a qualitative descriptive one by collecting data through observation, interviews and documentation. Then the data was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method, namely explaining the phenomena associated with the process of serving halal food for the Muslim community who were involved in the death ceremony. The results of the study indicate that the process of procuring food when there is a death party, 'Rambu Solo', the people who live in the village also work together, help each other among the community members. It is formed from everyday social relationships. Before the event is held until the event is over, all residents will come to help either as individuals, groups or religious organizations, will come to help the bereaved family, such as installing accommodation, providing food in the form of snacks such as cakes, as well as heavy meals, such as rice and the side dishes. All of the food that was donated, both from non-Muslims and Muslims, were all halal food served when the residents were mourning at the funeral home. In addition to food donations from residents, to ensure the halal level of the food served to the Muslim community, the party organizers rent cooking utensils from providers of the halal food cooking utensils in the area, then Muslim brothers themselves cook the halal food for the guests. Separately, non-Muslims also cook food for non-Muslim guests. So the food for non-Muslims is not shared but taken directly from the cooking place. So the conclusion is that the halal food for the Islamic community when there is a 'Rambu Solo' death party is very guaranteed to be halal.
