Perception of Halal Vaccination on Increasing Vaccine Participation for Elderly in Makassar
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the needs and perceptions of halal vaccinations for the elderly and their implications for increasing participation in vaccination programs. Elderly participation in vaccination programs is still relatively low due to concerns about vaccine halalness. This research method used a mixed strategy with qualitative and quantitative approaches by interviewing several elderly people who had not been or had been vaccinated. The results of the study show that there is an excellent need for halal vaccinations for the elderly. Elderly perceptions of halal vaccination tend to be positive. They see halal vaccination as a solution that protects health and provides a sense of security. Factors affecting the participation of the elderly in vaccination programs include lack of access to adequate information, low confidence in the halalness of vaccines, and social and cultural factors. The implication of this research is the importance of providing halal vaccinations that can meet the needs of the elderly. This can be done through increasing communication and providing clear information regarding vaccine halalness, involving related parties in preparing vaccination policies that pay attention to the needs of the elderly, and increasing public health literacy regarding halal vaccinations.
