THE ROLE OF HALAL FORENSIC IN DETERMINING MATERIAL HALAL STATUS

Abstract

BACKGROUND :

The awareness of the halal status for material or ingredients especially in food consumption has been rose among the public and not just in Muslim society. The public started to concern about the halalness of their food and consumables not just because of the halal status itself only, but with the halal status, they can ensure and guarantee the safety, cleanliness and reliability of food and consumables to be consumed. However, due to many scandals and fraud that happen to attack the halalness of particular raw material, food products and consumables, this had created a bad reputation and credibility of the halal status and halal bodies in Malaysia. Thus, Halal Forensic would be significant to enhance and strengthen the trustworthiness and reliability towards halal status and halal bodies in Malaysia. Hence, this study aims to identify what is Halal Forensic, what and how does their role in determining the halal status of material and how does Halal Forensic would help to minimise scandals and fraud.

METHOD : The type of research used is qualitative research. This study uses content analysis methods by referring to published papers and authoritative sources related to the study.

RESULTS & DISCUSSION: The expected findings are the role of Halal Forensic would be crucial to identify and detect the sources from najs material or from the illegal animals and halal critical ingredients or material used in particular food products and consumables. By providing the scientific evidence and syariah justification at the early stage, this would be very helpful to detect and beware of the fraud and scandals to happen.

CONCLUSION : Implementation and enhancement the role of Halal Forensic would be beneficial to protect the Halal Ecosystem. The laboratory results comply with syariah justification also can be used for conviction since the halal laboratory has been accredited. Yet, more research needs to be conducted to discuss further on development of halal forensic in various aspects.
