HEARING MODIFICATION TEST QUESTIONNAIRE AS PRE- SCREENING FOR HEARING DISORDERS IN INFANTS AND CHILDREN AT PRIMARY HEALTH CARE FACILITIES

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The incidence of hearing loss in children is increasing day by day. Hearing loss in children can be a manifestation of disorders that have existed since the baby was born or even before birth. The government has formed a national committee for the prevention of hearing loss and deafness. However, the hearing screening system for babies has not been running properly so that this problem cannot be addressed properly. Many obstacles have caused this program to not run, including the lack of supporting facilities and infrastructure. For this reason, it is necessary to conduct this research in addition to helping the government program in reducing hearing loss in children, also as a form of community service. METHOD: This study is a Cross-sectional Observational Study because the independent variables and dependent variables are taken at one time. The data taken are in the form of a description of the OAE results and data from the hearing modification test questionnaire. The instruments used are in the form of questionnaires and hearing measurement tools using the OAE tool. There were 39 infants and children aged less than 36 months who participated in this study. The collected data were then grouped based on the purpose and type of data, then analyzed using SPSS 22. Using the chi-square correlation test. RESULTS & DISCUSSION: It was found that there was a relationship between the results of the Hearing Modification Test and the incidence of hearing loss in infants and children aged less than 36 months at the health center. In the statistical test, the p value obtained was 0.001, using the chi square statistical test . Where it has a moderate level of relationship. Where through the Hearing Power Modification Test it is possible to predict results that are in accordance with the results of the OAE examination as the gold standard for examining hearing disorders in infants and children. CONCLUSION: that the hearing modification test questionnaire can be used as an initial screening tool (pre- screening) for hearing disorders because it has been proven in OAE examinations carried out on children where the babies and children have risk factors according to the hearing modification test.
