Abstract

BACKGROUND : Dental and Mouth health are the awareness and behavior of each individual. Maintenance of oral hygiene is closely related to plaque control. In general, dental plaque is a soft deposit, colorless, contains bacteria and adheres to the tooth surface. Child's knowledge of oral and dental health can be a factor in maintaining oral health. One of the causes of children's neglect of dental and oral health problems is a lack of knowledge about oral hygiene. Objective: This research is to know the correlation of dental and oral health knowledge with plaque status of 9-11 years old children in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. Materials and Methods: This study is observational analytic, with cross sectional study design study. The study population is children 9-11 years old in MI DDI Ainus-syamsi Mariso. Sampling method is Total Sampling with the entire population meet the inclusion criteria. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square test. Result: Based on the result of Chi-square analysis, p value = 0,000 (p value <α = 0,05), hence Ha is accepted which means the correlation of dental and oral health knowledge with plaque status of 9-11 year old child. Conclusion: There is a correlation between dental and oral health knowledge with plaque status of 9-11 years old at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah DDI Ainus-syamsi Makassar city 2017.
