JUSUF KALLA, BUILDING DEMOCRACY WITH BUGIS CHARACTER

Abstract

BACKGROUND Mr. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, often referred to as Pak JK, is a renowned figure known by several monikers: to acca, to panrita, and to sugi. 'To acca' signifies someone who is well-versed in multiple areas such as economics, politics, negotiation, and diplomacy. It suggests that he has a keen ability to read and understand various situations and opportunities, including the ability to analyze complex issues and social phenomena. Meanwhile, 'to sugi' indicates that he is a successful entrepreneur, having proficiently managed and expanded his parents' legacy business. METHOD : This writing was a Library Research by collecting the data and information from books and media related to the unique approach to democracy and diplomacy. RESULTS & DISCUSSION : The findings of this research indicate that Pak JK consistently the champions a form of democracy that reflects the Bugis character .JK deeply respects the local wisdom and philosophy of life of the Bugis people, which includes principles like ininnawa, sitinaja, siri' na pesse, resopa temmangingngi naletei pammase dewata, sipakainge, and taro ada taro gau. These principles, had guided him to the good approach to life and leadership. CONCLUSION : Pak JK has showcased adept problem-solving skills. The cornerstone of his successful diplomatic strategies can be traced back to the enduring teachings, philosophies, and traditional wisdom of the Bugis people that have been passed down through generations.
