AI-Driven Innovations for Halal Healthcare: Implications for Nursing Ethics and Practice - A Scoping Review

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative tool in healthcare, enhancing efficiency, safety, and decision -making. In halal healthcare contexts, particularly within nursing practice, AI offers opportunities to ensure ethical compliance, culturally sensitive care, and patient trust. However, a systematic mapping of its applications remains limited. METHOD: A scoping review was conducted using the PCC (Population, Concept, Context) framework. Literature searches were performed in Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases, guided by PRISMA methodology for transparency and rigor. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 articles were selected and analyzed to explore AI applications in halal healthcare and their implications for nursing ethics and practice. RESULTS & DISCUSSION: The findings reveal AI’s growing role in halal authentication of pharmaceuticals, hospital food services, and supply chain monitoring. AI -enabled traceability and decision-support systems support nurses in delivering culturally congruent and ethically sound care. Yet, gaps exist in regulatory frameworks, ethical AI use, and integration into nursing education CONCLUSION: AI -driven innovations strengthen halal healthcare systems by ensuring compliance and supporting ethical nursing practice. Future work should prioritize developing robust ethical frameworks and training programs for nurses to adapt to AI -driven halal healthcare.
