Pampang Canal Water Quality: Evaluation of TDS, pH, and DO and its Implications for Environmental Health

Abstract

Canal water quality is a contributing factor to the health of the environment and
surrounding communities. This paper provides information on the water quality of the
Pampang Canal in Makassar based on physical parameters. The methods used include water
sampling from the canal and laboratory analysis to determine TDS, pH, and DO values. The
results of this study inform that the TDS value of 2000 ppm and DO of 2.7 are above the class
4 quality standard, while the pH value is still within the safe range. Based on these observations,
Pampang Canal water does not meet the established water quality standards for several
parameters, as it can affect the health of the environment and living things that depend on the
water. The implications of these findings indicate the need for corrective action and
management of water quality in the Pampang Canal to improve the health and welfare of the
local community. This study also has some contributions to the development of canal water
quality theory and can be used as a reference for future research.
